Minister of Municipality and Environment Commends MRF’s Contribution to Qatar’s Recycling Leadership

His Excellency Mohamed bin Abdullah Al-Rumaihi, the Minister of Municipality and Environment (MME), recently conducted a site visit to Modern Recycling Factory (MRF) in Mesaieed.  The Minister, accompanied by Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Al-Sada, Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs at the MME, and a delegation of ministry officials, aimed to witness firsthand MRF’s role in advancing Qatar’s sustainable development goals.

During a comprehensive tour of the facility, the Minister was briefed on MRF’s operational processes, gaining a thorough understanding of the meticulous journey involved in transforming used tires into valuable resources. He observed each stage of the recycling process, from the initial receipt and sorting of used tires to their meticulous cutting, separation, and ultimately, their transformation into reusable rubber materials.

Impressed by the advanced technology employed by MRF, the Minister emphasized the critical importance of such initiatives, particularly in light of the sheer volume of used tires generated annually—estimated at over one million. He commended MRF’s role as a shining example of private sector participation in driving sustainable development within Qatar.

Highlighting the MME’s commitment to building a robust recycling ecosystem, the Minister revealed plans to establish additional recycling and waste treatment facilities across the country. This strategic vision aims to maximize the economic value derived from waste materials, shifting away from traditional disposal methods towards a circular economy model. He proudly acknowledged Qatar’s well-deserved reputation as a leader in recycling within the region.

The MME, as the Minister explained, extends its support to MRF through logistical assistance. This includes the collection and transportation of used tires and end-of-life vehicles from designated points in Umm Al Afai and Rawdat Rashid directly to MRF’s facility in Mesaieed. Such coordinated efforts underscore the MME’s dedication to fostering a collaborative environment where public and private entities work together to realize Qatar’s ambitious sustainability goals.

The Minister’s visit served to highlight the importance of MRF’s pioneering efforts, particularly as the first facility of its kind within Qatar to leverage advanced technology for tire recycling. This reaffirms Qatar’s commitment to setting a new standard for responsible waste management and sustainable practices within the region.
